Alterations in ectopic myocardial contraction assessed using real-time MRI

چکیده
Background Arrhythmias are a significant healthcare burden and an estimated 400,000 people die annually due to arrhythmia related complications. While pathological electrical activity can be observed at the endocardial surface during electrophysiology treatment, high spatial resolution non-invasive methods are needed to resolve aberrant contraction and establish correspondence with regional myocardial disease. To elucidate these abnormal electromechanical patterns, we sought to establish precise timing information of regional myocardial motion and global parameters using real-time MRI.

Visualization and Quantification of Regional Ventricular Wall and Blood Velocities by 3T 4D PC-MRI
Background Wall motion together with the development of intracavity pressure and inside shear stress cause synchronous myocardial contraction and relaxation, as well as blood flow. These variables are related to cardiovascular function and disease. Assessing regional wall velocities and blood flow may therefore provide quantitative information regarding abnormalities in wall contractility and a...
متن کاملEffects of Patellar Taping on the Patella Position in Presence of Quadriceps Contraction in 20-40 Year-Old Women With Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome Using MRI
Objectives: Patellar maltracking is the main reason for pain and disability in patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Patellar taping can considerably reduce such pain and disability. This study compared the effectiveness of physiotherapy exercises and kinesio taping on the patellar position in women with PFPS (mean age 32.2±1.12 years) by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: ...
متن کاملRegional timing of myocardial shortening is related to prestretch from atrial contraction: assessment by high temporal resolution MRI tagging in humans.
Earlier studies have shown substantial nonuniformity in normal left ventricular (LV) myocardial function concerning both the degree of shortening and timing of shortening. We hypothesized that nonuniform LV function may be related to nonuniform prestretch induced by atrial contraction. Eleven healthy human subjects were studied using MRI myocardial tagging and strain analysis. The amount of cir...
متن کاملSlowing of cardiomyocyte Ca2+ release and contraction during heart failure progression in postinfarction mice.
Deterioration of cardiac contractility during congestive heart failure (CHF) is believed to involve decreased function of individual cardiomyocytes and may include reductions in contraction magnitude and/or kinetics. We examined the progression of in vivo and in vitro alterations in contractile function in CHF mice and investigated underlying alterations in Ca(2+) homeostasis. Following inducti...
متن کاملTranscatheter real-time MRI guided myocardial chemoablation using acetic acid
Background In patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, radiofrequency ablation for ventricular arrhythmias can have limited efficacy because of the mismatch between lesion depth and substrate thickness, and because radiofrequency-induced edema surrounding the lesion is reversible resulting in only temporary conduction block. We hypothesized that transcatheter needle injection under real-time magn...
